9th Annual Free Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration

South end of Stinson Beach, Marin County, California
FREE
Celebrate Earth Day by creating art on the beach! Join in as community members, professional artists, and passers-by construct sculpture using sand, rocks, shells, seaweed and other beach treasures. In past years, we've stacked rock towers, made spirals from seaweed, planted a forest of "trees" made of driftwood, and created dragons, fairies, and abstract designs. During this playful event, participants work alone and in groups, transforming the beach into an evolving outdoor sculpture gallery. The intention behind the event is to create an experience that will inspire and energize people to care for and protect the earth not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year. The event starts with beach cleanup. We supply bags and gloves.

About Taluna
A common thread runs from Dubrovnik to Vukovar, passing through Belgrade, touching lightly Tirana and Athens. A thread flowing underwater touching Brindisi and passing through Mediterranean, skimming the Andalusia coast. A thread moves on guitars and violins chords, rebounds on leather drums curving on the accordion keys. Knot of these connections, these are Taluna. Band formed by four musicians with different roots and backgrounds, moving their first steps in 2008 in Turin (Italy); an immigrant’s city become a meltin’pot of Central Europe and North Africa cultures. GAIA MOBILIJ Calabrian lyre and accordion, MARCO GHEZZO violin, LUCA RUSSO acoustic guitar, PEPPINO LEONE percussions and traditional Southern Italian frame drums are the means of this mental, spatial and musical voyage between gipsy and sephardic sounds, Balcans syncopated rhythms and the obsessed tarantella.

12500 Campus Drive, Oakland, CA 94619
Sunday September 23, 2012
from 11am to 5pm
Experience participatory art that is in relationship with nature,
and shows the creative process of the artists.
Stroll along the mile-long Stream Trail of Redwood Regional Park and experience more than 200 artists and performers tucked among the meadows, redwoods and oaks in this family, bicycle and dog friendly festival.
Experience art in nature and delve into the nature of art in 12 Theme Areas featuring music, dance, sculpture, painting, martial arts, poetry, body painting, circus arts, theater, visual arts, storytelling, arts & crafts and kids events.
Bring a picnic lunch! There will be two food tracks outside the trail but
NO vendors, or items for sale in the festival.
While no admission is charged for the festival, the Redwood Regional Park parking has a $5 fee, it is very limited and will fill up by the crew and volunteers early Sunday morning. For that reason this year there will be a shuttle bus running throughout the day from nearby Merritt College. Park there and begin your adventure early with an entertaining ten minute ride to the entrance of the festival. While we are planning to have enough capacity to handle the expected crowd, the shuttle capacity is limited so we highly recommend to buy your ticket now!

Audiences worldwide are captivated by the virtuosity, profound musicality and the passion that Sicilian-born Laura Inserra brings to the stage. A vibrant composer and multi-instrumentalist, Inserra is a classically trained musician with a strong improvisational background. She will perform a solo concert on the Hang, a resonating percussion instrument related to the steel drum, song, gamelan and ghatam. In the Bernese language ‘Hang’ means ‘hand’ and the Hang is made, tuned and played by hand. Created in 2000 in Switzerland by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer of the PANArt Company, its sound evokes an exquisite and delicate inner landscape of spaciousness and vitality.
