Samavesha presents

in partnership with Zach Pine

7th Annual Free Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration

April 16, 2011, 11am - 3pm,

South end of Stinson Beach, Marin County, California.

Featuring Samavesha artists.

Celebrate Earth Day by creating art on the beach!

Join in as community members, professional artists, and passers-by construct sculpture using sand, rocks, shells, seaweed and other beach treasures. In past years, beachgoers stacked rock towers, made spirals from seaweed, planted a forest of "trees" made of driftwood, and created dragons, fairies, and abstract designs.

During the event, the beach is transformed into an outdoor sculpture gallery, with unexpected connections among the varied artworks. The intention behind the event is to create an experience that will inspire and energize people to care for and protect the earth not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year. The event is a model for collective creativity, connecting people of all ages with each other and with the natural world.

Beach cleanup is part of the event. We supply bags and gloves.

Musicians, dancers, and other artists from the international multidisciplinary arts organization Samavesha will participate in the event, inviting collaborative expression in service to the earth.

To learn more about the event, view these event photos from past years, and read this Marin Independent Journal article and these words from participants.

Instruction in sand globe making will be available during the event. To learn more about sand globes, visit this page from a previous sand globe event.

Bring a picnic lunch. The gathering will take place rain, shine, or fog.

Carpooling to the event is a great way to honor Earth Day. If you want to give or get a ride, email Zach Pine your details and I'll add you to the carpool group to make arrangements. Public transport from/to Marin City is one scenic hour on the West Marin Stage minibus.
