JouJou and Friends: International Folk A Capella Group
As part of the Rose Labyrinth Series
JouJou is a trio of three women (Jen Tait, Cynthia Vazquez, and Cynthia Lohr) who sing songs that hail from the rich and passionate folk traditions of the world. JouJou’s music can range in mood from poignant to comically raucous, and leap from rich lyrical harmonies to mysterious eerie dissonance in a heartbeat. Songs are in Yugoslavian, Macedonian, Russian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Georgian, Croatian, Mongolian, Portuguese, Armenian, Greek, Italian, Irish and Scottish Gaelic, medieval French, Appalachian, Ladino, Turkish, Lebanese and Laz. They’ve played with groups such as Rosin Coven, Charming Hostess, and Faun Fables.
Vocal improvisation musicians will join JouJou in the second half of the concert.
